The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), FPInnovations and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) have partnered to create the NSERC Forest Sector R&D Initiative, a $34 million, five-year initiative to identify commercially relevant research programs that will create new market opportunities for the Canadian forest sector. Research funded under this initiative will be conducted through 2014, and is expected to generate lasting impacts throughout the industry.

This initiative involves researchers in a wide variety of disciplines – not just those working in disciplines traditionally associated with the forest sector – who are participating in the development of new products and enhanced production processes to benefit the Canadian forest sector.
